Understanding Intermittent Fasting

Fasting has been practiced throughout history by almost every religion in the world. - Michael Leonard

Maybe you’ve heard about it. The internet is full of information about something that’s been around for centuries and recently been endorsed as really beneficial and life changing.

I’ve always felt like breakfast didn’t sit well with me but everyone said it was the most important meal of the day and, well, you know, everyone must be right! Even in grade school, parents would be sent home reminders about state testing dates and the messages always mention the importance of all the students getting lots of sleep and a GOOD BREAKFAST. The idea was something we all grew up with… we never knew why… we just knew that’s what we were supposed to do. ‘Breakfast is the most important meal of the day’ is like a famous quote that we all have lived by our entire lives BUT…..

What if I told you that I don’t think breakfast is the most important meal of the day? For most of my young life, I forced breakfast down because it was common knowledge that I should do so. Well, times have changed. You can FEEL better, LOOK better and be overall HEALTHIER by following the guidelines of Intermittent Fasting.

What if I told you that the food choices we make directly impact our health and the ‘when’ you eat is just as important as the ‘what’ you eat. It’s worth investigating, that’s for sure.

I ran across a video that changed my life and began my intermittent fasting journey. The video is short and informative and made me feel like my instincts toward eating have always been right….and now there is scientific evidence to support it. After listening to the video, I immediately began…. “It’s free, it’s flexible and it’s simple.”

I started with a 16:8 fasting day, every day. I thought about my schedule and came up with my 8 hour ‘eating time/feeding time’ to be from 12:00pm noon to 8:00pm. No calories before noon or after 8pm.

Pretty simple right? At first you’ll think you’re starving because we are all so used to eating out of habit….. I struggled the first few days and then started a small support group and joined social media pages that were dedicated to Intermittent Fasting. (Links below).
